How do I set up a CodeMeter license server on a physical computer?

Follow these instructions to configure a physical Windows computer as a central license server for your network. This allows multiple client PCs to "float" licenses from a single USB dongle.

1. Software Installation

  • Download the latest CodeMeter User Software from the Wibu-Systems website.
  • Run the installer as an Administrator.
  • During the "Custom Setup" step, ensure that the Network Server components are selected to be installed on the local hard drive.

2. Hardware Preparation

  • Plug your USB Hardware Lock (CmDongle) into a high-speed USB port directly on the server.
  • Open the CodeMeter Control Center and verify that the dongle appears in the list with a green icon and a valid serial number.

3. Enabling Network Server Mode

By default, CodeMeter only searches for licenses locally. You must manually enable the "Server" role to broadcast licenses to the network:

  1. In the CodeMeter Control Center, click the WebAdmin button (bottom right).
  2. Navigate to Configuration > Server > Server Access.
  3. Under the "Network Server" section, check the box for Enable.
  4. Ensure the Network Port is set to the default 22350.
  5. Click Apply.

4. Firewall Configuration

For client PCs to reach the server, your Windows Firewall must allow traffic through Port 22350:

  • Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
  • Create a new Inbound Rule for TCP Port 22350.
  • Set the action to Allow the connection and name the rule "CodeMeter License Server."

5. Verification

To confirm the server is broadcasting correctly:

  • Go to the Dashboard tab in WebAdmin.
  • Check the Server Status; it should indicate that the Network Server is "Running."
  • You can now proceed to point your Client PCs to this server's IP address.
